Though both Warner Bros. and director Christopher Nolan had been holding firm to the idea that his latest film, Tenet, would be arriving on 17 July, the current situation with cinema re-opening has forced a re-think and a delay. Though, fortunately right now, only to 31 July.
Tenet had been primed to be the big film that would welcome cinemagoers back to the warm (hopefully not Covid-laced) embrace of their local multiplex, but it'll now be gazumped by the likes of the live-action Mulan (assuming that doesn't now shift from its own 24 July date). That sound you hear is our Chris screaming into a void at the fact that the news dropped after this week's Podcast – two of 'em! – was recorded. And the date won't go entirely empty – Warners has announced that it will offer the director's Inception__ (which is celebrating 10 years since release) will be offered as a replacement.
Nolan's new film has been kept mostly a mystery, even in its trailers, which largely feature John David Washington as an agent investigating a conspiracy that involves some strange time-meddling and the possibility of World War III. Robert Pattinson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Debicki, Clémence Poésy all also feature, plus former collaborators like Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh.
Check out the most recent trailer below. As mentioned, the film will now land on 31 July. Probably.
