He seemed, for a while, to have left the comicbook action roles behind, returning to Europe for the likes of Claire Denis' White Material and Sophie Marceau's Trivial. Now though, it looks as if Christopher Lambert is returning to Hollywood, for a role in **Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
The news comes from the man himself, via Highlander's Facebook page, with the message (left with the moderator) reading, "He is in talks now to do Ghost Rider 2 with Nicolas Cage. He did sword training for three months."
Are those two statements actually connected? If they are, it implies that Lambert's role in the sequel is heavy on the swordplay. But the post is a response to unseen fan-sent questions, so they could be answers to two separate inquiries (the following statements are "his pinky is fine" and "if you want to marry him he'll need to see a photo"). Three months' training would seem like a lot of work if you're only "in talks", and could very plausibly be a response to a question like, "How much training did you do for the fights in Highlander?".
Swords or otherwise, there's no clue yet as to what Lambert's mooted role in Spirit of Vengeance might be, although we're liking the idea of another Ghost Rider, like Sam Elliott in part one. Insert "There can be only one" joke here.
If he signs on, he'll join the returning Nicolas Cage as Jonny Blaze, Ciaran Hinds as The Devil, Johnny Whitworth as his henchman, Idris Elba as a boozy warrior monk, and Violante Placido as the mother of The Devil's child. Crank headcases Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are directing, and shooting starts shortly in Turkey and Romania.
