Christopher Guest Planning New Comedy?

While at the moment there’s nothing official, any word that Christopher Guest is plotting to make a new film has us in Quietly Excited Mode. And when the story from admittedly gossipy site The Women On The Web also includes mention of him reteaming with Harry Shearer and Michael McKean, you can ramp that up to Expectant.

But the site’s Liz Smith (via the keen-eyed bods at Cinematical) is reporting that McKean is looking to collaborate with McKean and Shearer on a film about the kooky, cutthroat world of retro collectors. They’re the folk that haunt trade fairs, and the Interwebs looking for old comics, toys, records and all sorts of knickknacks.

It’s certainly a fertile world for the character-based comedy we’ve come to know and love from Guest and co and though there’s no word on whether it’ll be shot mockumentary style a la **Spinal Tap **and Best In Show or more traditionally like For Your Consideration, we’re not sure we care either way. It's been four years since Consideration. We're ready.

Hopefully it’ll also see the trio calling up their usual reliable cadre of performers, including John Michael Higgins, Michael Hitchcock, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge and the rest (especially Jane Lynch; fingers crossed it shoots when she’s not working on Glee).

We’ll definitely stay on top of this one and start praying to the gods of Stonehenge that it comes together.
