Though it seemed in April that Warner Bros. had decided to chop off the tree limb where David Yates’ **Tarzan perched, it would appear that the studio is pressing ahead with the film after some contemplation time. According to Variety, Christoph Waltz is now in talks to play the villain.

Alexander Skarsgard is still attached to don a loincloth and play the man raised in the jungle who must protect his home from some great danger. And Yates remains in the director’s chair for the film, which has seen script work from John August, Cormac and Marianne Wibberley and, at last word, Adam Cozad.

While it seemed that troubles getting Jamie Foxx and Jessica Chastain to commit to the film stalled it, things are back on track, though Yates is still trying to lock down an actress to play Jane. He’s apparently considering the likes of Harry Potter collaborator Emma Watson and The Wolf Of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie. No offers have been sent out on that front, though.

If he signs, Waltz will likely be a military man threatening our hero, though the exact details of his character have yet to be confirmed. Warners has yet to officially greenlight the movie, so it’s far from a definite prospect, but gathering a cast will definitely help its chances.
