Last seen bounty hunting through **Django Unchained **and next week providing voice-menace as the baddie in Epic, Christoph Waltz will shortly be returning to modern times for **The Candy Store{ =nofollow}. The thriller, which Stephen Gaghan wrote and is producing and directing, also has Robert De Niro, Jason Clarke and Omar Sy already on board.

Set in the criminal underworld of Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, the film sees Clarke play an ex-covert operative turned beat cop who discovers that the organisation he's dedicated himself to fighting has inveigled its way onto his home turf. On his side against the bad guys is Robert De Niro's disgraced cop, while his antagonists include Sy's international sex-trade "entrepreneur", and now Waltz's mafioso, who's posing as an American suburbanite.

There's also an as-yet uncast "beautiful girl" in there somewhere, and a plan to detonate a nuclear bomb in the middle of Manhattan. So, y'know, just the fate of millions at stake: no biggie.

Gaghan co-wrote the screenplay with Shannon Burke, and the film's coming together via Lionsgate and production company Good Universe.
