Christina Applegate is, in our humble opinion, one of the luckiest people around at the moment. How so? She gets to act alongside the gang on Anchorman: The Legend Continues. Now she’s looking to keep the comedy flowing by entering talks for a role in the rebooted take on National Lampoon’s Vacation, which in this case is simply called Vacation.

Ed Helms is attached to star in the remake/sequel/re-quel/whatever, which follows a grown Rusty Griswold as he takes his own family out on a road trip, with all the inherited madness that implies. Applegate, assuming she strikes a deal (and Variety’s use of the term negotiations indicates she’s in the process) will be Rusty’s wife.

Horrible Bosses/Burt Wonderstone team John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein have been the main writers on the project almost since it started, and are planning to make their joint film directorial debut on the movie. With David Dobkin (who had considered directing at one point) producing, Vacation should be shooting later this year. Applegate will next be seen in the aforementioned Anchorman sequel, due here on December 20. We’re still jealous.
