Lars Von Trier might have a reputation for being tough on his actors (ask Bjork), but that certainly doesn’t seem to stop famous names from flocking to work with him, and several have become repeat collaborators. Christian Slater will be a new face in the ensemble, as he’s joined the cast of the director’s latest, Nymphomaniac.
The movie, which features Von Trier regular Charlotte Gainsbourg as a 50-year-old woman recounting her life and sexual exploits as a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, will be split into eight flashback chapters. Slater is on board to play Gainsbourg’s character’s father when she was young.
"Lars is a complete gentleman. It's great to be on a set with someone who has such a loyal and talented team," Slater tells the Hollywood Reporter. "The majority of his crew are people he has worked with over the past twenty years. They love him and I understand why. It's lovely as an actor to get opportunities a few times in your career to work on a truly special project with a director and leader who really understands his material and is able to convey what he wants so concisely."
Von Trier is cranking the cameras right now somewhere outside of Cologne with Stellan Skarsgard and Shia LaBeouf also among the cast. The plan is for the movie to arrive in both soft-core and hard-core flavours, and we really want to be a fly on the wall of ratings boards when they see the final film.
