After years of success in pure animation with the likes of Ice Age at Blue Sky, Chris Wedge is now in negotiations to jump into a blend of live-action and CG for Paramount. The studio is after the director to make **Monster Trucks **work on screen.

Though there’s an obvious appeal to seeing large trucks crushing cars and generally doing crazy things, we’d guess the use of CG and the fact this is being targeted as a potential summer franchise means the eventual movie will play up the “monster” part as well as the trucks.

Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, who wrote Kung Fu Panda and its sequel for DreamWorks Animation and were drafted in by Paramount for the new SpongeBob SquarePants film, are aboard to write the new adventure. The studio wants it in production during the first half of next year, ready for what is an already-busy summer 2015.

Could this become Paramount’s new Transformers (not that the “old” Transformers is in any danger of wrapping up)? Only time will tell on that front, but we’re intrigued to see what Wedge does with something like this. They'd best find a role for Robosaurus, though – you wouldn't like that guy when he's angry.
