Before we go any further, we must caution you that this is strictly a rumour, and nothing concrete has been dug up yet. In fact, just by considering the idea, we may all be under threat from a giant boulder. Still: Deadline is reporting that Disney, fresh from bringing the original flavour Han Solo back for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is now looking to put someone else in the trademark battered fedora as Indiana Jones. That someone – and don’t say you didn’t see this coming – is Chris Pratt.

The man who many compared to Solo in Guardians Of The Galaxy and, from what we’ve seen of the film so far, invokes some thoughts of Doctor Henry Jones Jr. in Jurassic World, is apparently the Mouse House’s choice to succeed Harrison Ford in the iconic role. The company bought the rights to make and distribute any new Indy adventure from Paramount shortly after it closed the big Lucasfilm deal in 2013.

Back then, there were rumours that Ford might return for a fifth (wait, there was a fourth?) instalment of the franchise. Now, though, while it’s very, very early days for the idea, and there's no news on whether Indy overlords Steven Spielberg and George Lucas would be involved this time, Disney is reportedly pondering someone new, and Pratt fits the bill nicely. He’s a much better known name these days and has proved he can carry off the much-needed blend of self-deprecation and derring-do required for the character. Naturally, any deal will have to take into consideration his busy schedule: he’ll be out and about promoting Jurassic World this summer, is gearing up to shoot the Magnificent Seven remake with Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua and is committed to return as Peter Quill for the next Guardians Of The Galaxy, already scheduled for an April 28, 2017 release here.

Now, while Harrison Ford will likely always be Indy for many people – it’s incredibly tough to see anyone else adequately wielding that whip after all this time – we’d certainly see Pratt fill the role over other choices. But what say you?
