Chris Pratt Talks Guardians' Rocket Raccoon

With the film just recently wrapped in London, the various Guardians Of The Galaxy cast members have been spread to the winds, off to other jobs. That also means they’re free from the security of the set and the watchful gaze of director James Gunn and Marvel, so they can talk a little more freely about what we can expect. Chris Pratt, attending an event marking 100 episodes of his sitcom Parks & Recreation, opened up about one of his non-human co-stars, Rocket Raccoon.

Well, we say opened up: there’s still the small matter of not giving too much away about the movie, so Pratt was circumspect but interesting. He plays human mercenary Peter Quill, the self-proclaimed Star Lord in the film, and explained that what we might be expecting from weapon-happy critter Rocket might not be what we get. “You think it’s a cartoon character, but it’s not, it’s a very real creature,” the actor tells Access Hollywood. Rocket will be a combo of motion-captured action (shot on set), CG creature and Bradley Cooper’s voice.

”Rocket has been tortured his whole life and no one else likes him, so he’s lonely and he’s angry and there are all these elements to the character,” he says. “You sort of forget about that, you wouldn’t think about, and hopefully will come to life. I think it will and that’s why they hired a really good actor to do the role. I could not be more excited that Bradley Cooper is voicing Rocket Raccoon: it’s a great character. It’s probably the best character in the movie, just because it’s not what you would expect.”

We can expect one thing, however: with Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, Benicio Del Toro, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Dave Bautista, Glenn Close, Gregg Henry, Karen Gillan and Vin Diesel among the cast, Guardians Of The Galaxy will be out on August 1, 2014.
