Blimey, Chris Pine’s agents aren’t waiting around now that Star Trek Into Darkness is proving as successful as they hoped. He’s been booking jobs all over, including a cameo in **Stretch as a favour to Joe Carnahan and a likely role in Rob Marshall’s **Into The Woods. Chalk up another one on his likely list as he, Amanda Seyfried and Chiwetel Ejiofor are all set to appear in** Z For Zachariah.
Tobey Maguire is starring in and producing the film, which is adapted from Robert O’Brien’s tome by Nissar Modi.
Compliance director Craig Zobel is in charge of this one, which finds a teenage girl called Ann living alone on a farm in a remote valley that just so happens to contain the only breathable air in the surrounding area following a brutal nuclear war.
Her relatively tranquil life is rudely interrupted when two strangers wander in from the forest. Things don't go too smoothly after that.
Now those who have read the book, or had it foisted on them for GCSE English, may remember that there's only one visitor to Ann's valley on the page - but Variety is definitely reporting that two strangers visit in this adaptation. Either they're wrong, and Pine or Ejiofor is appearing only in flashbacks, or there's been a significant change in bringing the book to the screen. It would make a certain degree of narrative sense to bring the book's much-discussed Edward along to the valley rather than telling his story entirely in retrospect, but we'll have to wait and see what approach they've taken.
Zobel is looking to start shooting in August.
Pine, of course, is on screen as Captain Kirk, and will attempt to launch the Jack Ryan franchise this Christmas. Seyfried is shooting Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways To Die In The West and Ejiofor is part of the cast for Steve McQueen’s much anticipated Twelve Years A Slave, which arrives on January 24 next year.
