A couple of days ago, it was reported that Chris Hemsworth had dropped out of talks to star in Mitch Rapp adaptation American Assassin. We speculated it was because his schedule was filled with Robopocalypse and future Avengers adventures. Turns out that may only be partly true, because he’s also now attached to Stephen Gaghan’s crime thriller Candy Store.

Gaghan has been putting this one together for a while now, attracting the likes of Brad Pitt and Christoph Waltz as likely stars.

Hemsworth is up to play an elite, deep-cover operative who loses everything and ends up disappearing into Brooklyn. Trying to start over as a lowly beat cop, he finds that the global crime syndicate he was battling as an agent now has its tendrils firmly in his new backyard.

According to The Wrap, it’s not the only movie he’s being considered for, as he’s also pondering a Steve McQueen biopic that tells the true story of McQueen and his friendship with his stunt double, Bud Elkins. That could conceivably seem him starring alongside younger brother Liam.

If Gaghan can secure Hemsworth (and, possibly, Waltz) for Candy Store, it would go a long way to getting it made. But right now, all we know is that Hemsworth is definitely appearing in Thor: The Dark World, which is almost finished shooting and set to arrive in November next year, and that he'll be in the long-delayed Red Dawn, which lands in the US on November 21 but *still *doesn’t have a release date over here.
