Chris Evans Joins Scott Pilgrim

Well, the cast for Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim Vs The World just got a little hotter, with news that former Human Torch Chris Evans has signed on.

Evans – who has long since become famous enough for us to lose the traditional (no, not that one) after his name – will play skateboarder-turned-movie star Lucas Lee, one of the seven evil exes that Pilgrim (Michael Cera) must overcome before he can win the heart of his true love, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead).

He shows up in the second volume of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series – the one titled, funnily enough, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World – but we’re not sure yet whether his role has been expanded for the movie. Given that Evans is comfortably the biggest star in the cast to date, we’d expect so.

Certainly, the casting for Wright’s first post-Pegg movie has been pretty flawless so far, even if it might be initially hard to swallow the notion that Michael Cera is an upgrade over Chris Evans. The fact that Scott Pilgrim is funny/sweet/cool/charming, and Lucas Lee is an unrepentant and vainglorious dickhead might help matters.

For Evans, the role should give him a chance to further show off the acting chops that he’s displayed in the likes of Danny Boyle’s Sunshine and Street Kings. One thing’s for sure – it should be a world away from his last experience with a comic book adaptation…
