Chris Evans is the new James Franco. By that, we don’t mean he’s become attached to a hundred projects at once while also studying for 16 degrees and crafting five art projects – he’s taking over Franco’s role in killer drama The Iceman.

Since it was announced back in January, the film about the real, double-life of family man/contract killer Richard Kuklinski has been through a fair few changes.

But Michael Shannon is still aboard to play Kuklinski, with Maggie Gyllenhaal signed on as his doting but innocent wife. Evans is now Robert Pronge (AKA Mr Softee), who acted as Kuklinski’s mentor. David Schwimmer has reportedly been in talks to play a fellow assassin and Ray Liotta is aboard as mob boss Roy Demeo.

Ariel Vromen is the man calling the shots, using the script he adapted with Morgan Land from Anthony Bruno’s tome The Iceman: The True Story Of A Cold-Blooded Killer. He’s aiming to start shooting next month.

Evans, last seen opposite Anna Faris in What’s Your Number, has been on a heroic kick of late, playing Captain America for Marvel in both his own film and next year’s Avengers. He’ll next crop up in indie drama Puncture.
