We’ve known for a while now that Avengers 4 will likely bring an end to some of our most beloved Marvel heroes. And while Thanos’ attack in Avengers: Infinity War didn’t end up wiping out classic team members like Iron Man or Captain America, the spectre of death will loom large over some of the MCU’s original icons as we head into the end of Phase 3.
Throwing petrol onto those flames is Chris Evans, who has wrapped on Avengers 4 – and strongly hinted that he’s done with playing Steve Rogers for good. In a Tweet, Evans wrote: “Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”
Evans has been open about the fact that he won’t play Cap forever (as much as we’d like him to), and it seems that Avengers 4 could very possibly be his swansong in that universe. Now begins the speculation over whether Steve and his glorious beard (not Sharon Carter) will survive the events of the film and make the choice to hang up his star-spangled duds, or whether Thanos will grind him into a fine, dusty paste. We’ll find out when Avengers 4 hits uk cinemas on 26 April 2019.
On a more positive note, Evans has now joined the cast of Knives Out – the mysterious new film from Rian Johnson, also starring a certain Daniel Craig. More on that here.
