As a writer, Mattson Tomlin is having quite the moment – with Project Power still doing well on Netflix, he's also the co-writer with Matt Reeves on The Batman. Tomlin is looking to expand that into directing, and has Chloe Grace Moretz on to star in his debut behind the camera, Mother/Android.
Moretz will star as Georgia, who, with her boyfriend Sam, goes on a treacherous journey to escape their country, which is caught in an unexpected war with artificial intelligence. Days away from the arrival of their first child, the couple must face No Man’s Land – a stronghold of the android uprising, in hopes of reaching safety before Georgia gives birth.
For Tomlin, it's a personal draw as it's loosely based on his birth parents' attempt to feel the Romanian Revolution so their child could be safe. "Mother/ Android is a deeply personal story inspired by sacrifices made to bring me into this world,” he says. “I’m thrilled to be working with Miramax and my friend Matt Reeves to tell a story that speaks to the strength of humanity in the darkest of times."
Reeves, who has been looking to get The Batman back on track after the pandemic shutdown (and has faced new obstacles), will produce the new movie via his company, with Miramax providing the backing.
