The Cannes Film Festival is upon us once again, and with it comes a host of companies all touting their wares like market traders hoping to make a sale. IM Global has a new ripe offering to chalk up on its board, landing Chiwetel Ejiofor and Gwyneth Paltrow for the remake of **The Secret In Their Eyes.
This one has been in development since 2010, originally targeted by Warner Bros. but now out on its own. Captain Phillips** writer Billy Ray jumped aboard when it was originally announced and has since been trying to find a way to adapt the Oscar-winning 2009 Argentinian criminal/political thriller for a more US or internationally-flavoured story. Undoubtedly the toughest call is finding something that can parallel the focus on Argentina’s military junta and its overtones of corruption.
Ray clearly believes he’s cracked it and is looking to direct BAFTA winner/Oscar nominee Ejiofor in the story of a former MI-5 agent haunted by an unsolved murder. Returning to Boston as part of a joint task force with the FBI, he uncovers a terrifying truth that changes everything about the past events he can’t let go. There’s no word on who Paltrow would play, but they’re all planning to start work this autumn in Boston.
Ejiofor most recently worked on** Z For Zachariah** and is set to kick off his stint on John Hillcoat’s cop thriller Triple Nine. Paltrow, who was last seen in Iron Man 3, has Johnny Depp action comedy Mortdecai headed into cinemas next year.
