About a voiceover guy made famous

Cheech Marin To Direct Angel Of Oxnard

It’s surprising to find that, in a career where he’s done virtually everything on a movie set except key grip and gaffer, Cheech Marin hasn’t directed more often.

In fact, the 62 year-old has only, as far as we know, directed one feature-length film: Born In East LA. And that was back in 1987.

So, it should be immediately clear where we’re going with this: Cheech is back back back!

He’s signed on to direct the dramedy, Angel Of Oxnard, for HighRoad Entertainment.

Marin also wrote the script for the movie, in which he will star as a voiceover man for a home shopping channel in the titular Californian town. When his face is found on a tortilla, he finds himself at the heart of a worldwide media storm.

Now that’s a premise barmy enough for Empire to embrace like a long-lost child. And, since Marin is one of the great unsung supporting players in Hollywood, it’s good to see him getting another day in the sun.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what his old partner in high crime, Tommy Chong, is up to… Cheech & Chong are currently touring the US for their first series of live shows in over a decade. It’s called Light It Up America/Canada… and we have no idea what that means.
