American author Tom Wolfe's most recent novel, I Am Charlotte Simmons, is set for the big screen. The rights to the story have just been purchased by Trilogy Entertainment and Syntax Entertainment, but the project has yet to find a screenwriter or director.
The novel follows the titular Charlotte from her innocent, impoverished roots in a North Carolina mountain town to Dupont, a fictional stand-in for the likes of Harvard and Yale. There, she expects to find high-minded intellectual discussion and instead – the shock! The horror! – finds boozy parties and casual sex. How will our heroine cope?
The novel received mixed reviews, but sold well, especially on campuses, leading the makers to hope that this will prove a hit with students.
