After working with Lars von Trier on several films including last year’s Nymphomaniac, Charlotte Gainsbourg should be well attuned to dealing with strange entities that don’t want to obey rules. She’ll need all her fortitude to help with the return of an out-of-this-world menace, as she’s in talks to join the cast of Roland Emmerich’s **Independence Day **sequel{
Few exact details are known about the plot for the follow-up, although we can assume that there will be a return engagement with the resource-coveting aliens that humanity faced and saw off in the first film. Jeff Goldblum is confirmed to be returning, with Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher both also locked into roles, Hemsworth as former President Whitmore's (Bill Pullman, not definite, but possible) son-in-law and Usher the son of Captain Steven Hiller, as played in the original by Will Smith, who is as of now not coming back.
What Gainsbourg will be up to in the movie also remains to be seen at this point, with Emmerich now in pre-production ready for a June 24, 2016 US release, with UK audiences seeing the movie on July 1.
Gainsbourg has worked on Wim Wenders’ new drama Every Thing Will Be Fine and is preparing to shoot Oppenheimer Strategies, which co-stars Michael Sheen and Dan Stevens.
