Let the Fast & Furiosa jokes continue in an officially-sanctioned shower! Though she had only been in talks up to this point, waiting to see a finished script, Charlize Theron has officially signed on to play the big bad going up against Vin Diesel's Dom Toretto in Fast 8.
Deadline's report doesn't include specific details on who Theron will actually be playing in the new _Fast & Furiou_s entry, and rumours had pinned her as a potential new member of the nasty Shaw family (previous siblings including Luke Evans' Owen and Jason Statham's Deckard). But it sounds like she's just going to be a powerful, dangerous woman who has great influence in the criminal underworld. It would be fun to see the new movie shot almost completely from her point of view, a la Mad Max: Fury Road, but that probably won't work in terms of the Fast films' usual focus.
Diesel is back of course alongside Statham, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and the rest of the current cast, and some filming has already commenced, though largely limited to second unit stunt work so far. The film, directed by F. Gary Gray will be shooting in Iceland, New York and Atlanta with talk persisting that it'll also be among the first American films to shoot in Cuba since the US trade embargo on the country was lifted.
This will mark Theron's reunion with Gray, who also made the 2003 Italian Job remake with her. Fast 8 is scheduled to arrive here on April 14 next year.
