Back in December, the world in general (at least the parts that worship Oscar Isaac) was happy to see him cast as the voice of Gomez in a new, animated take on The Addams Family. Now, the ensemble has been rounded out with Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, It/Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Bette Midler and Allison Janney.
Sausage Party directorial duo Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan are overseeing the film, working from a script that Matt Lieberman wrote based off of Charles Addams' famous cartoons. With the animation process under way, the first image of the family is now available, and graces the top of the page.
The plot for the film will chart the early days of the Addams brood, as they face off against a crafty reality TV host while also awaiting the arrival of extended family members for a big celebration.
“Greg and I have always been a fan of the Addams Family in past versions, so when we set out to make this movie, we were excited to do something new. With that in mind, I drew from the brilliantly original Charles Addams New Yorker cartoons for the look of the film and decided to tell the story of how Gomez and Morticia meet, find their house and start their family," says Vernon. "This unique approach is what drew me in to direct the film. The reimagining also extends to the stellar cast we’ve put together who will each bring their own spin to our film that will appeal to longtime fans of the Addams and introduce them to a new generation."
Theron will play Gomez' wife, Morticia, with Moretz as daughter Wednesday and Wolfhard as son Pugsley. Kroll is Uncle Fester, while Midler is on to voice Grandmama. Janney will be their nemesis, Margaux Needler. With MGM's backing, the film is aiming at an October 2019 release slot.
