Channing Tatum is definitely having a good 2012, what with the box office success of The Vow and the well-earned plaudits he won for his comedy chops on 21 Jump Street, just two of his five film appearances this year. And with an eye to future projects, it appears Tatum’s looking to get back into full-scale action territory, entering negotiations to star in White House Down.
Roland Emmerich is overseeing what we expect will be an OTT thriller about a group of paramilitary terrorists taking over the White House and the Secret Service agent (Tatum) who has to save the president and defeat the bad guys.
Amazing Spider-Man co-writer James Vanderbilt penned the script, which gives us some hope that it might be grounded, in the midst of a throwback ‘80s / ‘90s slug/bullet-fest. The fact that the character Tatum is considering is a single dad should give you some clue as to the angle they’re taking. We’ll pitch the line “Welcome to the FIGHT House!” right now, if they care to use it.
Tatum will next be seen wearing not a lot in Steven Soderbergh’s stripper pic Magic Mike (due July 11) followed by more action work in G.I. Joe: Retaliation on August 3.
