1990's Ghost is probably most famous for making pottery wheels seem sexy, and for its performances, including those of Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and an Oscar-winning Whoopi Goldberg. It's long been considered a cult favourite, but that doesn't necessarily make it remake/reboot proof, and Channing Tatum has plans to do just that.

Speaking in a new Vanity Fair profile to promote Magic Mike's Last Dance, Tatum admitted he and his creative partners have the rights to Ghost and are developing a new version.

"But we’re going to do something different. I think it needs to change a little bit," referring to some of the more problematic, stereotypical attitudes and portrayals of the original. He doesn't specify what needs to be altered, but it sounds like he's enthused about the idea of the new movie.

The original saw Swayze as Sam Wheat, a banker madly in love with artist Molly Jensen (Moore). Shortly after Sam starts investigating discrepancies at his work place, he's murdered in a seemingly random street mugging. Eschewing the chance to move on the heaven, he remains as a spirit and learns that not only was his slaying far from random, but that Molly is also in danger. He recruits fake medium Oda Mae Brown (Goldberg), who, it turns out, can actually see and hear him, to help him save Molly.

Magic Mike's Last Dance, meanwhile, will be out on 10 February.
