Channel 5, the British TV channel best known for its dodgy late-night movies has signed a massive multi-million pound deal with Paramount Studios to host a series of A-list film premieres over the next year. In marked contrast to its usual 'adult' content and straight-to-TV movies, the list of films due to be premiered reads like a TV executive's Christmas wishlist. Among the movies to be shown on the channel next year are Saving Private Ryan, Armageddon, The Matrix, The General's Daughter and Eyes Wide Shut. The Paramount deal also includes a number of classic fare movies such as Chinatown, An Officer and A Gentleman and Ghost. Does this mean that the usual Channel 5 fodder such as 'Who Stole My Children?' starring the likes of Cheryl Ladd and Donna Mills will be no more. We can only wait and see.
