When we first brought word that Summit Entertainment was ploughing ahead on a sequel to retired-agents-kicking-arse action comedy Red, there was a lot of love shown in the comments. So those of you eager for more of Bruce Willis and co firing off both guns and quips will be glad to hear it’s definitely still cooking, with Catherine Zeta-Jones and G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s Byung-Hun Lee joining the fun.
So far from the original cast, Willis John Malkovich, Helen Mirren and Mary-Louise Parker have all signed up for another tour of duty.
Dean Parisot is behind the megaphone – replacing Robert Schwentke – and the original movie’s writers Jon and Erich Hoeber have cooked up a script that finds the old gang reuniting to battle enemies across Europe. No details have been declassified yet about the roles that Zeta-Jones and Lee will be playing. We do, however, know that Parisot will be kicking off filming later this year, aiming for an August 2, 2013 release date.
Zeta-Jones has Rock Of Ages set to arrive on June 15, and also shot parts in Lay The Favourite (with Willis), Playing The Field and Broken City. She’s currently filming The Bitter Pill, a reunion with her Traffic director Steven Soderbergh. Lee is reprising his role as Storm Shadow in the G.I. Joe sequel, which invades our shores on August 3. And guess who’s also in that? Yup: neither of them can quite escape the lure of the Willis…
