The Forty Year Old Virgin's Catherine Keener will play the protective mother of a demi-god in Christopher Columbus' new adventure Percy Jackson, based on the best-selling fantasy series by Rick Riordan.
Co-scripted by Cheaper By The Dozen's Craig Titley, the film will follow Percy, the half-human,-half-god son of Poseidon, who must stop a war among the Greek gods in modern-day America. Keener, up next in Oscar-botherer The Soloist alongside Robert Downey Jr., will engage in battle with the host of immortal deities in order to protect her offspring, until she is abducted by Hades.
Some of the gods she will come up against are played by a distinctly stellar cast, including Pierce Brosnan as Chiron the licentious centaur, Uma Thurman as snakey lady Medusa, Sean Bean as big man in the sky Zeus, Kevin McKidd as daddy of the deep (and her son) Poseidon and CSI: NY's Melina Kanakaredes as none-more-wise godess Athena. 3:10 To Yuma's Logan Lerman will play Keener's son Percy. Shooting kicks off soon in Vancouver for a 2010 release - right up against fellow toga-tastic squabble match Clash Of The Titans.
