Intriguing developments in the Paranormal Activity camp this morning, with co-directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman signing on to helm **Paranormal Activity 3.
The pair were behind Catfish, last year's is-it-or-isn't-it-real documentary Facebook stalker thriller. Catfish certainly isn't a horror film, but it does have a troubling off-kilter feel to it that ought to sit well in the found-footage poltergeist franchise. Clearly it impressed original Paranormal writer/director Oren Peli, who retains some level of creative control over the series.
Paranormal Activity 2 managed to spin in a surprising direction by essentially - but not entirely - constituting a prequel to the original. Joost and Schulman will have their work cut out keeping that rug-pulling momentum going, although the writing this time falls not to them but to Christopher B Landon, who penned Disturbia.
Schulman will also produce, along with Peli, Steven Schneider and Akiva Goldsman, and all involved will need to seriously get cracking, since Paranormal Activity 3 already has a release date of October 21 this year.
