He may have dropped out of The Rosie Project alongside Jennifer Lawrence, but the man behind Boyhood is still going full speed on his next film. Richard Linklater has Cate Blanchett ready to star in Where’d You Go, Bernadette.
Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who worked on The Fault In Our Stars and Paper Towns, adapted the screenplay from Maria Semple’s 2012 book. The story sees an agoraphobic architect who vanishes before her family takes a trip to Antarctica. And the tale is narrated by her teenage daughter via a mixture of her and her mother’s emails, letters and conversations with a therapist.
Linklater is lining this one up to shoot next, and having Blanchett on board would be a big bonus, especially with such a compelling character to play. The actress is back on our screens in a couple of weeks with Todd Haynes’ Carol, which is already being talked about as an award-grabber. Next March brings Truth, the film about US journalist Dan Rather and a controversial story. And she’ll also be seen in Terrence Malick’s Knight Of Cups, which should be in cinemas next year.
