As films adapted from videogames have seen more success at the box office in recent years, so the number of them in development has increased. And the cinematic take on Gearbox's Borderlands series just took a big step forward, with Cate Blanchett in talks to play Lilith.
Eli Roth is already aboard to direct, with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin providing the script. The Borderlands series has become one of the most successful in game history, selling more than 57 million units. The game’s basic story focuses on a group of four Vault Hunters, who travel to the distant planet Pandora to hunt down an alien vault that is rumored to contain advanced alien technology. They quickly find themselves battling the local wildlife and bandit population as they attempt to stop the head of a private army from reaching the vault first.
Lilith, the role Blanchett would take if a deal closes, is one of the main playable characters, and one of only six women in the galaxy who are part of the "siren" class, possessing superhuman powers. After Thor: Ragnarok, this shouldn't be a challenge for her. This film would also see her reunite with Roth after The House With A Clock In Its Walls.
