The voice of Garfield cast

News that a Garfield feature was in production came as cause for celebration to his legions of equally indolent fans. But once it was decided that Peter Hewitt would direct a CG incarnation of the portly orange cat, the pertinent question became: who could provide the voice? Requiring a precise blend of wry sarcasm, misanthropic ill humour and the kind of extreme laziness that borders on semi-conscious, the vocals for this irascible feline had to be balanced to perfection. Jack Nicholson? Crabby but not quite enough sloth. Tom Hanks? The tone would be right but he just doesn't have the requisite bitterness. Adam Sandler? Not unless you want a riot on your hands. But sunk in the bog that was this casting conundrum a ray off hope appeared and the perfect candidate rose from the waters, illuminated by some divine spotlight: Bill Murray! Can you think of anyone more suited to the role? We certainly can't. Blessed with the perfect balance of droning indifference and coiled sarcasm, Murray's quite simply the perfect choice. Good job.
