Since launching their careers in the 1970s, musician sisters Nancy and Ann Wilson, and the revolving group they've assembled around them to form Heart, have been through the various ups and downs of big name rock stars. And now their story will be told by another musician, one who has turned her hand to TV and film – Carrie Brownstein.
The news was broken by Ann Wilson on Lyndsey Parker's Volume West satellite radio show. "I can’t tell you all about it, because it’s still being written right now," Ann said. "Carrie Brownstein is writing it… I saw the first draft of [Brownstein’s] script, it’s really cool. A few actresses have come forward, no one that’s right, but it’s known that the role of Nancy and the role of me is now being cast."
The Wilson sisters have had a rollercoaster of a career, from superstardom to their particular genre falling out of favour, and strife internally and externally. But they've always bounced back, putting solo projects and spin-off groups together, and working in other media (Nancy, for example, has written several scores for ex-husband Cameron Crowe's films and these days is an executive producer on TV series while still gigging).
It's early days for this one, with no casting in place yet, but the Heart story certainly feels like one that would make for a good movie. And Brownstein, who co-created Portlandia and has worked on various TV shows and films on both sides of the camera, is a solid choice to bring it to screens.
