Psycho laughs beat fowl play

Jim Carrey’s latest Farrelly Bros outing, Me Myself and Irene, scooped the top slot at the US box office this weekend with a hearty $24.2 million opening. That’s a personal record for Peter and Bobby Farrelly and leagues ahead of their previous best - There’s Something About Mary - which made, in contrast, a paltry $13 million on its opening weekend. Carrey’s success meant that despite brave fighting talk in the past few days, British-made Chicken Run failed take the number one position. Still, the Aardman movie made a creditable $17.5 million - certainly nothing to cry about. The film’s good opening, coupled with the exceptional reviews Chicken Run is garnering from US critics, should make this a record-breaking year for the Bristol-based animation studio.
