Jim Carrey's romantic interest in the upcoming The Majestic will be played by Laurie Holden. Holden has never played the lead in a feature film before, and her most famous role so far is as U.N informer Marita Covarrubias in The X-Files. The Majestic will be directed by Frank Darabont. However, unlike his previous films, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, it's not based in a prison, or adapted from a Stephen King book. Instead it's set during the McCarthy trials in 1950's America, with Carrey as a blacklisted writer. When he suffers amnesia following a car crash, the inhabitants of a small town mistake him for a soldier who had died in WWII. Holden will play the girl who had been dating the soldier before he went to war. Darabont told Variety "How lucky are we to have found her to play Jim's long-lost love in this movie? I'm thrilled at the prospect of presenting a fresh face to the audience."
