After a couple of comedy roles (Lemony Snicket and the upcoming Fun With Dick and Jane) Jim Carrey is taking on a more serious project for director Joel Schumacher, quirky thriller The Number 23.
Carrey will play a man who becomes "obsessed and haunted" by a book that appears to describe his life – but ends with the murder of the central character. The number 23 appears again and again in the book, seemingly woven into the plot – and he becomes obsessed with the number in his own life while trying to ensure that he himself is not murdered.
Schumacher was attached to the film once before, but since his planned multiple personality drama The Crowded Room (expected to shoot early this year, it has been pushed back for Lem Dobbs to rewrite the script – read more about that film here, and Carrey also has a gap in his schedule, the film is scheduled to go into production very soon. After all, Carrey is due to work with Ben Stiller and Jay Roach on Used Guys, shooting late next spring, so this one will need a quick turnaround. We could see this as early as next summer, but we'll keep you up to date when we hear more.
