Awards season continues apace – just yesterday the American National Board of Review announced its choices – and now comes the turn of one of the biggest critic groups across the pond. This time, it’s Todd Haynes and Carol that walked away with the most trophies from the New York Film Critics Circle Awards.

The drama won Best Picture, Best Screenplay for Phyllis Nagy’s adaptation of the Patricia Highsmith novel The Price Of Salt, Best Cinematography for Edward Lachman and Best director for Haynes. The acting awards, however, went in another direction, with Saoirse Ronan rewarded as Best Actress for Brooklyn, Michael Keaton winning Best Actor for Spotlight, Bridge Of Spies’ Mark Rylance as Best Supporting Actor, and in a more surprising (but no less deserving) move, Clouds Of Sils Maria’s Kristen Stewart took Best Supporting Actress. Possibly the least surprising of the list (aside from the chance that Charlie Kaufman’s Anomalisa could win out) was the inclusion of Pixar’s Inside Out as Best Animated Film.
