So far in her film career, Carey Mulligan has mostly stuck to dramas – the closest she’s come to a thriller is a small role in Public Enemies. But that all looks set to change now she’s negotiating to join the all-action pic Drive.
But the Universal thriller is clearly shaping up to be something different than your basic, brain-free blockbuster, with Nicolas Winding Refn directing and Ryan Gosling and Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston (whose casting was first picked up by Film School Rejects) already aboard to star.
Gosling is playing a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a wheelman for bank robberies. But when his latest job goes awry, he’s forced to go on the run with hit men after him and a former prisoner’s girlfriend (Mulligan) in the passenger seat of his car.
Killshot’s Hossein Amini wrote the script, and the film plans to start shooting in Los Angeles next month. Given that cast, this is one we’re already excited to see…
