The role of the young Hillary Rodham Clinton – who until recently was America’s Secretary of State – for a new biopic called Rodham, has become a hot property among young actresses vying to take on the challenge. Now it appears that The Great Gatsby’s Carey Mulligan is the top choice to snag the part{
Smashed director James Ponsoldt is putting the pieces together for this one, which will follow the young Hillary Rodham as a young lawyer on the committee that oversaw Richard Nixon’s impeachment and her struggle to balance a successful career with her feelings for future president Bill Clinton.
During the past week or so, the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone have been connected with the role, but now it appears that Ponsoldt is favouring Mulligan. According to The Hollywood Reporter, nothing is on paper yet: the director still has to meet with the actress, and there’s a chance they’ll hate each other, leaving the door open for someone else. Right now, however, Mulligan’s the front-runner.
Mulligan, still on our screens in Baz Luhrmann’s latest, will next be seen in the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis, which got great reviews in Cannes and is due here on January 24 next year.
