With a wealth of awards and nominations already in place for her astonishing performance in Promising Young Woman, Carey Mulligan has now landed a plum role in Adam Sandler's next dip into more serious territory. Mulligan is on board for the now simply titled Spaceman.
Chernobyl regular director Johan Renck will handle the shot-calling duties, while Colby Day is adapting Jaroslav Kalfar's novel for the script, once named Spaceman Of Bohemia after the book. The story follows an astronaut (Sandler) sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect mysterious ancient dust. He soon finds his earthly life falling to pieces and he turns to the only voice who can help him try to put it back together. It just so happens to belong to a creature from the beginning of time lurking in the shadows of his ship.
Mulligan will be Sandler's wife back at home on Earth, a role we hope will offer solid scope and not simply be an anguished partner. Given who landed the part, we've got reason to feel confident.
