Starring in Dinner for Schmucks must’ve given Steve Carell a taste for foreign food. Or foreign cinema, at least: he’s setting up a remake of Argentina’s 2008 rom-com A Boyfriend For My Wife.
Variety reports that Warner Bros. has nabbed the rights to the film and Carell will develop it via his Carousel Productions company as a likely project for him to star in.** Snow Dogs** writers Mark Gibson and Phil Halprin have been hired to bash out the script.
The original, titled Un novio para mi mujer, finds a wimpy husband unable to stand the thought of staying married to his wife. Unfortunately, he’s also seemingly gripped with terror at the idea he could divorce her without good reason, so he tries to find someone for her to fall in love with. But his choice turns out to be the world’s least likely lothario.
Boyfriend will have to join the ever-growing list of movies that Carell has in development, though once he finishes up work on The Office next year, chances are he’ll have more time to get to his cinema roles.
