After spending some time wallowing in development, waiting for the right filmmaking team to happen along, things finally seem to be clicking for Vanessa Taylor’s script Great Hope Springs. Now Steve Carell is negotiating to join the movie.

Springs already boasts Meryl Streep and her **Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel for the tale of a middle-aged married couple whose relationship has started to fall apart. To try to fix things, they agree to a retreat that features an intense marriage counselling session.

Carell is in talks for the role of Dr Field, the therapist who tries to help the couple rekindle the spark.

There’s no word yet on who will play the husband to Streep’s wife, but according to Deadline’s story, Frankel is close to locking in an actor. At one point in the movie’s history, Jeff Bridges was attached to that role, but dropped out when the scheduling shifted. There’s still a chance that he could come back, but it’ll depend on his availability when Frankel starts cranking the cameras in August.

As for Steve Carell, he’s winding down his stint on The Office and will next be seen on the big screen in Crazy, Stupid Love with Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore…
