Eight years after he set the blueprint for the recent Apes trilogy with 2011’s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, filmmaker Rupert Wyatt is returning to socially-conscious science-fiction territory with new thriller Captive State. That title refers to us humans – the film posits a dystopia where Earth has been invaded by an alien force who have taken control and enslaved the population. But we’re not taking it lying down – enter Ashton Sanders as Gabriel, a young rebel from Chicago who joins uprising group Phoenix and gets recruited by John Goodman’s cop Mulligan to help take back control.

Empire has an exclusive early look at the film’s new poster, reflecting the devastation of the aliens’ arrival – and their formidable-looking ships:
