We only have a few months left to wait until Paul Greengrass’ new fact-based drama, Captain Phillips, docks in our cinemas. To remind us (and those across the pond) of that fact, Columbia Pictures has released two new posters.
**Captain Phillips **follows the eponymous captain dealing with and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.
Phillips and some of his crew were taken hostage and faced real peril before US Naval Special Forces rescued them. Following his ordeal, Phillips became something of a hero for his bravery under challenging circumstances, landing book deals and TV appearances.
Now one of those books, A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, And Dangerous Days At Sea, which Phillips penned with Stephen Tally, has become the basis for the new, Tom Hanks-starring film. Billy Ray cranked out the script and the cast also features Catherine Keener, Chris Mulkey, Faysal Ahmed, and Max Martini. Captain Phillips will be out here on October 18, following a US release of October 11.
