It's been almost a year and a half since we first got word that a new I Know What You Did Last Summerreboot was in the works from Do Revenge director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. And whilst we received no further word on what Robinson's been cooking up last summer, this summer we have just had an exciting update on the upcoming horror legacyquel. Per THR's reporting, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery star Madelyn Cline and Robinson's Do Revenge lead/Riverdale breakout Camila Mendes are set to lead the latest in the slasher saga alongside Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), and Tony Award nominee Sarah Pidgeon (Tiny Beautiful Things).

The new set of potential killers/victims' roles remain hush-hush for the time being, but we do know that OG I Know What You Did... stars Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love-Hewitt — whose Julie James and Ray Bronson were last seen as still-being-stalked newlyweds at the end of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer — remain in talks to reprise their roles. Elsewhere, we also know that Robinson has co-written the script for the film with Sam Lansky after first draft scribe Leah McKendrick's initial pitch blew studio execs away, and Neal Moritz — one of the original movie's producers — is backing this new take on the franchise in a producing capacity once again.

Reportedly conceived as a reboot in the Scream mould, bringing original cast members and fresh blood together to rejuvenate a legacy horror brand, this new I Know What You Did Last Summer will actually be the second attempt at reviving the iconic 90s chiller following 2021's one-and-done streaming series. What exactly this latest retooling will entail is anybody's guess, but with Robinson's genre nous having been well established with Do Revenge, a buzzy ensemble assembled with familiar and fresh faces alike, and a gap in the market opening up after Scream's recent behind-the-scenes issues, a killer comeback could well be on. One thing's for sure: we know what we'll be doing next summer — watching I Know What You Did Last Summer. It's set to hit our screens on 18 July, 2025!
