Though you might think that Disney had the lock on all things Cinderella, the public domain nature of the fairy tale means that anyone can take a crack at it. So here comes Sony, which is planning a re-imagined version that will star singer Camila Cabello.

Kay Cannon, who last made Blockers, is on to direct the film, with the new spin on the concept apparently dreamt up by James Corden, AKA the actor, late night talkshow host and voice of Peter Rabbit.

Quite what that new idea is has yet to be revealed, but it'll feature plenty of music, since Cabello is also involved in that element of the eventual film. There will likely be some staples of the tale – a young woman dealing with a cruel step mother and siblings and a royal romance with the help of some magic, but we'll have to wait and see what the new spin is. We've zero information yet on when this one might start shooting, but with the main character cast, we'd imagine the cameras will roll this year.
