After her sister kept her in In Her Shoes, Cameron Diaz is set to star in My Sister's Keeper, with Nick Cassavetes directing and based on the novel by Jodi Picoult.
Diaz will play Sara Fitzgerald, a former lawyer who finds herself back in court, representing herself and her husband, when their daughter sues them. So much for filial loyalty, we hear you cry - but wait. Said daughter, Anna, was conceived to be a genetic match for her older sister Kate, who has leukeamia. Anna, now 13, already donated blood and bone marrow since a young age, and decides to see medical emancipation from her parents that will allow her to decide for herself whether to donate a kidney too.
Jeremy Leven is adapting, which may or may not be a good thing. After all, he did bring us Don Juan DeMarco, which was kinda fun, but since he also brought us The Legend of Bagger Vance and The Notebook, it seems the man also knows his way around a schmaltzfest from time to time. Let's hope this keeps the emotion under control - expect more casting news in the next few weeks.
