Things are moving right along with the remake of 1966 crime comedy drama Gambit. Colin Firth, who had been offered the lead role, is now firmly in place, and he’s being joined in the caper by Cameron Diaz.
With a script from the Coen brothers and The Last Station’s Michael Hoffman in the director’s chair, this new Gambit tweaks the story slightly, while maintaining the criminal aspect.
This time around, Firth will be playing a London art expert who aims to con a wealthy collector into purchasing a fake Monet. To help push the ruse, he finds an American woman (Diaz) – a Texan steer roper – to claim that her grandfather liberated it at the end of World War Two. But if the plot plays out anything like the original, the pair will end up falling for each other, and the plan will start to unravel.
Hopefully Diaz will get to enjoy a decent role after her limited screen time in The Green Hornet...
