Cameron Diaz To Join Green Hornet?

According to those lovely folks over at EW, Cameron Diaz is in talks to play the female lead in Michel Gondry’s superhero flick, The Green Hornet.

Negotiations are at a very early stage, apparently, but it seems that Diaz is set to star alongside Seth Rogen, as newspaper publisher-by-day, masked crimefighter-by-night Britt Reid, and Stephen Chow, as his sidekick, Kato.

It’s not even known which character Diaz would play, but the obvious candidate would be Lenore ‘Casey’ Case, Reid’s secretary. Of course, that might put the relationship in Tony Stark/Pepper Potts territory which, given that** Iron Man 2** is also scheduled for next summer, might be something that Rogen, his co-writer Evan Goldberg and Gondry wish to avoid.

If Diaz does sign on, it’ll bring her career full circle, in a way. After all, she exploded onto the scene in that red dress fifteen years ago in The Mask, another flick based on an unheralded superhero property. Either way, her casting adds another intriguing element to a film that promises to be utterly barmy and brilliant.

Shooting on The Green Hornet starts soon, with the film set for a July 9, 2010 release.
