While we at Empire Online try not to put too much credence in unsubstantiated hearsay, this little nugget, was just too good to resist. According to an anonymous reader of Movieheadlines.net - who fortuitously stumbled into director Luc Besson while in Paris - a sequel to the excellent Leon (aka The Professional) may be on the horizon. According to the source, Besson and Gaumont films have been contemplating a sequel to the film despite the untimely demise of the title character. Apparently the plan is to follow up the tale focusing on Natalie Portman's character, jailbait assassin's apprentice, Mathilda. The story aims to follow her life after Leon's death and her journey into a 'cleaning' career of her own. Besson is apparently writing a synopsis at the moment but did say that if Portman failed to sign on it would be unlikely to go ahead. Whether fact or fiction, any thought of repeating Besson's stylish hitman take on the Big Apple is more than enough to get Empire Online's mouth watering.
