Even without her slightly famous filmmaking parentage, Bryce Dallas Howard has spent enough time on sets to start figuring out what she wants to do in terms of other jobs. After making a few short films and music videos, she's stepping up to direct a movie, Sorta Like A Rock Star.

This one will find Ol Parker adapting Silver Linings Playbook author Matthew Quick's 2011 novel, which follows teen Amber Appleton, who lives on a bus. Ever since her mother's boyfriend kicked them out, Amber, her mum, and her totally loyal dog, Bobby Big Boy (aka Thrice B) have been camped out in the back of Hello Yellow (the school bus her mother drives). Still, Amber, the self-proclaimed princess of hope and girl of unyielding optimism, refuses to sweat the bad stuff. But when a fatal tragedy threatens Amber's optimism – and her way of life – can Amber continue to be the rock star of hope?

Fox Searchlight originally snapped up the rights to the book, but have let them since lapse. Now the potential project is still set up with production company Temple Hill, which is hoping it'll find a new studio home.

And it's not the first film that she's considered making – her script for The Originals is still floating around. Howard will be back in front of the cameras in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which is out on 8 June next year.
